During the sleep state, our brain can make unexpected connections we may not have realized when awake. How many times have you awakened with an “a-ha” moment or been able to solve a problem that had eluded you during the day? Sleep gives the brain a chance to process all the various stimuli that we are exposed to during the day, bringing some order to it.
